Lower Coal Creek Watershed (Sponsor = Iron County) - Utah
The project is funded through authority of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act.
Project Description
The United States Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), with assistance from Iron County (project sponsor), are proposing to fund through the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act [Public Law (PL) 83-566], improvements along the Lower Coal Creek within the proposed Lower Coal Creek Watershed. Improvements are proposed to provide flood protection for Lower Coal Creek from approximately I-15 to near 9600 North in Iron County, Utah.
NEPA Analysis
NRCS, as the lead federal agency, is initiating National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis in the form of a Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment (Plan-EA) to analyze impacts to the natural and human environment from this Project. The Plan-EA will comply with the USDAs regulations at 7 CFR Part 1b which require an evaluation of potential environmental impacts associated with federal projects and actions. The Plan-EA also integrates analysis following the Principles, Requirements and Guidelines for Water and Land Related Resources Implementation Studies and Federal Water Resource Investments (PRG, 2018).
Current Status
The project is currently in the Planning Phase. The public, organizations, tribes, and agencies were given opportunity to provide comments on the proposed project during the Public Scoping comment period from June 6 to July 6, 2022, with a public meeting held on June 15, 2022.
