USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service and partners are hosting a public meeting to discuss proposed rehabilitation efforts for two dams located in Wake County.

(Raleigh, N.C, Oct, 9, 2026)- USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Wake County Commissioners, Wake Soil and Water Conservation District, Durham Soil and Water Conservation District, and the City of Raleigh, are sponsoring a public meeting to discuss the proposed rehabilitation of Dam No. 11A located on Richland Creek and Dam No. 22B located on Hare Snipe Creek in Wake County, North Carolina.   The meeting will be held on November 4, 2026, at the Lake Lynn Community Center located at 7921 Ray Road, Raleigh, NC.  The meeting will start at 6 p.m.  The virtual meeting link is https://bit.ly/30wegta and the call-in number is (347) 966-8462 with an access code of 232632389#

Representatives from the Local Sponsors and NRCS, along with their consultants, will provide information on the dam rehabilitation program, planning activities to date for the Crabtree Creek dams, describe the various rehabilitation alternatives being considered for these flood control structures, present the recommended alternatives, and answer questions and concerns about the planned activities, and seek public input.

The dams provide flood protection to residents of Wake County located downstream.  Local sponsors, NRCS staff, and their consultants are developing plans for rehabilitating these two dams, so they meet current dam safety regulations and design standards.  Alternatives being considered include: no action, decommissioning (dam removal), structural rehabilitation, and nonstructural measures.

Federal funding has been received to assist the local sponsors in developing the plans but has not yet been secured for the design or construction of these projects.

NRCS provides reasonable accommodations to enable all people with disabilities to participate in agency programs and activities.  If you require special accommodation to participate in this meeting, please contact Govinda Sedhay by November 3, 2026.  For further information on the meeting, contact Govinda Sedhay, Assistant State Conservation Engineer, with NRCS at (919) 873-2129 or by email at govinda.sedhay@usda.gov or Mark Hamlett, Deputy Director of Engineering Maintenance, Wake County General Services, at (919) 856-5858 or Mark.Hamlett@wake.gov.
