Project Summary

Forest pests, wildfires, and drought across the Sierra Nevada continue to cause unprecedented forest mortality. The need to recover and promote resilience is imperative. Because these challenges are unparalleled, a coalition of over 40 organizations came together as the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force. In support of the Task Force’s goals, the goal of the Crisis to Opportunity: Sierra Nevada Recovery and Resilience RCPP project is to address the forest health crisis. 

Project Goals

  • Provide TA and FA to landowners, including historically underserved producers, to remove dead trees from high mortality areas; reduce fuels through thinning hazardous trees and removing fuel loads; and recover through reforesting
  • Unite a large group of public and private entities as partners in promoting forest health across the Sierra Nevada
  • Leveraging partner contributions, complete widespread education and outreach throughout the region about NRCS programs and TA
