Maricopa-Stanfield Irrigation & Drainage District (WFPO)
Project Description
The Maricopa-Stanfield Irrigation & Drainage District Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment Project in Pinal County, Arizona covers 103,686 acres and is located west of the City of Casa Grande. The purpose of the project is agricultural water management; namely to increase the available water supply for the farms located in the MSIDD service area and preserve the long-term productivity of the soil. The need for this project is to offset the loss of Colorado River surface water supplies delivered to the MSIDD through the Central Arizona Project, as well as reduce the impacts of drought stress on crops through conservation practices. The alternatives considered as solutions to these issues will consist of structural measures such new and replacement irrigation wells and pipelines, and non-structural conservation practices such as cover crops.
