Florence Flood Retarding Structure

Project Description

The Florence Flood Retarding Structure (FRS) Watershed Rehabilitation Project supports long‑term flood protection for the Town of Florence and surrounding agricultural lands in Pinal County, Arizona. The existing FRS is aging and requires modern upgrades to continue functioning effectively during storm events. Through the Watershed Rehabilitation Program, the Project will develop updated engineering designs and improvements that enhance the structure’s safety, reliability, and performance.

The Florence FRS provides critical protection for local farms, public infrastructure, and residential areas. Past assessments show the structure helps safeguard 21 farms and more than 4,800 acres of prime and important farmland, making its continued operation essential for both community safety and agricultural resilience. Rehabilitation efforts will strengthen the watershed’s ability to manage high‑flow events while supporting the region’s long‑term stability.
