Cibecue Creek (WFPO)

Project Description

The Cibecue Wash Watershed Plan–Environmental Assessment (Project) will improve the aging irrigation system that serves the Cibecue community on the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s Fort Apache Reservation in Navajo County, Arizona. Much of the system, about 20 miles of ditches, diversions, and headgates have exceeded its lifespan and can no longer reliably deliver water to local cropland, limiting agricultural productivity and food security in the community.

The Project proposes practical upgrades such as rehabilitating headgates, improving ditch conditions, and addressing sediment issues that affect water flow. These improvements will help restore dependable irrigation, support traditional farming practices, and strengthen long‑term watershed health.
