Cherry Creek - Verde River (WFPO)

Project Description

This project covers 144,868 acres in the Cherry Creek-Verde River Watershed in Yavapai County, Arizona. The Towns of Cottonwood and Camp Verde are included in the watershed. The purpose of the project is to identify and evaluate alternatives to prevent, protect against, or eliminate repetitive flood damage along the Cottonwood Ditch and its tributary water courses that pose repetitive risks to life and property. The need is that Cottonwood Ditch was not intended to serve as stormwater conveyance or a flood control structure, and existing public stormwater infrastructure are generally undersize and beyond their expected lifespan. This project has been found to be feasible by NRCS and is awaiting resources to begin the watershed planning phase.
